Recently, the Ukrainian State Center for International Education conducted a study on «Foreign Students in Ukraine during the War (2022-2023).»

Olena Shapovalova, Director of the Ukrainian State Center for International Education, discussed the results and more on Hromadske Radio.

The study, carried out from May to September 2023, involved more than 3,500 international students.

Olena Shapovalova shared that the most provocative question posed to the students in the survey was whether they would recommend studying in Ukraine to their friends despite martial law.

«And 45% confidently said yes. 26% said they would not recommend it, and 29% were undecided, and in general they said that everyone should decide for themselves, due to a certain danger that foreign students face.

Also, when we asked about the extension of martial law and whether they plan to continue their studies if martial law is extended, for example, for several years, whether they are ready to continue their studies in Ukraine, whether they will transfer to other universities, 56% of foreign students who are currently studying said that yes, they are ready to continue their studies in Ukrainian educational institutions, 17% said they are ready to transfer to another country, and 27% said they were undecided, they will look at the situation».

It’s noteworthy that by February 24, 2022, Ukrainian universities had educated over 84,000 young people from 158 countries across all continents. As of January 1, 2023, more than 50,000 foreign students were pursuing their studies in our country.
