Ukrainian police are currently investigating the deaths of more than 12,000 Ukrainians. 1,200 bodies, including those found in mass graves, have not yet been identified, said head of the National Police of Ukraine Ihor Klymenko in an interview with Interfax-Ukraine.
According to Klymenko, more than 1,500 civilians were killed in the Kyiv region alone:
«In Bucha, Irpen, Gostomel, Borodyanka, there were a lot of killed people lying right on the streets – snipers shot them from tanks, from armored personnel carriers, despite the white bandages that the Russian military forced people to wear.»
So far, every week law enforcement officers find several bodies of murdered Ukrainians:
«In Bucha, 116 people were buried in one such grave, there were burials of 5-7 people. Residents collected the bodies of the dead and buried them in parks, «Klymenko said.
According to the head of the National Police, about 75% of the dead are men, about 2% – children, the rest – women.
«To date, about 1,200 bodies have not been identified. This is a long process, quite laborious, because so many bodies are in a state of decay. We take DNA from those relatives who contacted us on the hotline, then we compare the profiles of these relatives with the profiles of the dead who were buried, shot, who could not be identified. Relatives should be only direct – father-mother-children. This is the only way we work, ”Ihor Klymenko summed up.
