The Russian occupation army has set a «deadline» coinciding with the upcoming presidential elections in Russia. Military expert Oleksiy Hetman, speaking on Hromadske Radio, revealed that their mission remains unchanged – to capture Avdiivka in the Donetsk region and Kupyansk in the Kharkiv region.
«Their task has not changed, and they have a deadline set for March 15-17, or preferably, by the beginning of the month, to capture at least two settlements: Avdiivka and Kupyansk. This plan has been dictated by their political leadership. The goal is to reach the Kupyansk hub to undermine our logistical capabilities», — Hetman stated
He also mentioned that there are indications of the Russian forces adjusting their strategy, possibly targeting Lyman instead of Kupyansk directly. However, the Ukrainian military on the ground believes the Russians face insurmountable challenges, especially in crossing the Oskil River.
It is important to note that the presidential election in Russia is scheduled to take place over three days, from March 15 to 17, with Vladimir Putin seeking reelection for the fifth time.
In 2020, Russia introduced multi-day voting ostensibly to protect voters from the coronavirus. This approach was first implemented during a five-day referendum on constitutional amendments, allowing Putin to extend his term limits and stay in power until 2036.»
