The mortality rate in prisons within the Temporarily Occupied Territories of Ukraine has increased — human rights activists

Instances of prisoner deaths under criminal charges have been on the rise in detention facilities within the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine.

This was reported by the Eastern Human Rights Group.

«Prisons supervised by the Russian Federal Penitentiary Service have witnessed an increase in the frequency of deaths among prisoners serving sentences under criminal charges (excluding prisoners of war and political prisoners). The recent surge in such incidents is attributed to drug overdoses and fatalities occurring during work activities», – as outlined in the report.

Human rights activists further highlighted that, due to a shortage of labor, Russia exploits the workforce of prisoners at certain coal and metallurgical enterprises located in the temporarily occupied territories.
