For the first time in its history, Ukraine is going through the heating season relying on domestically produced gas. Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal announced on January 31 that approximately 10 billion cubic meters of gas are now stored.
Shmyhal emphasized the significance of this milestone, stating:
«We are going through this heating season using domestically produced gas only for the first time in Ukraine’s history».
Highlighting the efforts of Naftogaz of Ukraine and state-owned Ukrgazvydobuvannya, he noted an 11% increase in production and the opening of new gas production wells with substantial capacity.
«We currently have around 10 billion cubic meters of gas in our storage facilities. And we are truly running this heating season with gas exclusively produced in Ukraine», — stressed the Prime Minister.
Shmyhal underscored that Ukraine is also facing the winter with a balanced electricity system. On January 30, he confirmed that the Cabinet of Ministers has no plans to alter utility tariffs this winter, maintaining preferential electricity rates for households.
Energy Minister Herman Galushchenko previously assured that Ukraine would achieve self-sufficiency in domestically produced gas by 2024.
