SBU has detained a Russian agent who was involved in espionage activities targeting Ukrainian Armed Forces ships near the Mykolaiv port

In the Mykolaiv region, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has uncovered another informant working for Russian special services, responsible for gathering intelligence on Ukrainian Armed Forces ships near the Mykolaiv seaport and spying on Ukrainian ground units engaged in combat operations on the left bank of the Kherson region.

This was reported by the SBU press centre.

The identified priority targets for the enemy operative included warships of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and their movement along sea and river routes. The suspect also sought information on the coordinates of ground units, particularly those involved in combat operations on the left bank of the Kherson region. The gathered intelligence was intended to aid the invaders in preparing missile and drone attacks on the southern Ukraine frontline.

Due to effective counter-sabotage measures, the Russian informant was apprehended at the initial stage of reconnaissance and subversive activities and detained in his residence. The investigation revealed that the individual, a local resident, had been remotely recruited by Russians earlier in the year. His pro-aggression posts in support of the war against Ukraine drew the attention of the invaders.

Upon completing hostile missions, the suspect reported to a representative of one of the Russian special services through a messenger. A search of the detainee’s apartment resulted in the seizure of a mobile phone containing evidence of his intelligence activities.

The offender is currently in custody and faces a potential sentence of up to 12 years in prison.
