In the Snovska community of the Chernihiv region, the village of Yeline has been virtually destroyed by Russian shelling, as reported by Pavlo Solodovnyk, a correspondent from the Chernihiv region, on Hromadske Radio.
«There is no question of any restoration in the 20-kilometre zone. If we talk about Yeline, a village in the Snovska community, it has been virtually destroyed. If earlier a few people refused to evacuate, now there are no people there at all, and there is no question of any recovery», – Solodovnyk stated.
He highlighted the dire humanitarian situation in some settlements, where volunteers and representatives of local authorities are providing assistance, although there are places that remain inaccessible.
Regarding the security situation in the Chernihiv region, Solodovnyk remarked that it has remained unchanged for more than two years since the de-occupation of the region.
«There is daily shelling of communities, with no forced evacuations yet, but recently there has been an escalation, following a wave-like pattern. For one week, the enemy has been rapidly attacking the settlements of the Chernihiv region with various types of weapons, including aviation, FPV drones, artillery, MLRS, and subversive reconnaissance groups», – said Solodovnyk.
He noted that although the situation has somewhat eased in recent weeks, daily shelling persists. While forced evacuations have not been implemented, people are voluntarily relocating with the assistance of local authorities, as there are villages where it is virtually impossible to remain due to extensive damage.
Solodovnyk mentioned that shelling is currently originating only from the Bryansk region and that while the situation is not as critical as it was a few months ago, tragic incidents have occurred. Although the infiltration of subversive reconnaissance groups persists, their activity has decreased compared to previous periods.
Additionally, Solodovnyk observed increased combat readiness and aircraft movements in Belarus in recent months, particularly with the heightened readiness of the 19th Belarusian Brigade in the Gomel region. While there are no direct provocations, there is a constant movement of military equipment.
It is important to note that the border regions of the Chernihiv region continue to endure Russian shelling, utilizing various types of weapons. While evacuation options exist for the local population, many choose not to utilize them.
