Taking control of Nestryga Island will improve the quality of counter-sabotage measures — head of Strategic Communications Centre of the Southern Defence Forces

The assumption of control over Nestryga Island in the Kherson region by the Defence Forces is expected to significantly enhance the effectiveness of counter-sabotage measures.

On April 28, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi, announced that the Defence Forces had taken control of Nestryga Island, situated in the Dnipro Delta within the Bilozersky district of the Kherson region.

In his comment on Hromadske Radio Dmytro Pletenchuk, head of the Strategic Communications Centre of the Southern Defence Forces, said:

«This development holds more tactical significance than strategic. The importance lies in securing locations that obstruct enemy advancements towards our positions. Since the enemy often exploits such areas, there are numerous islands along the Dnipro River, this control primarily bolsters the quality of counter-sabotage efforts. The island has been cleared of any potential enemy presence», — the spokesperson explained.

He further noted that Nestryga Island is the last in a series of small islands before the river mouth.

«Actually, this is our shoreline… Typically, such islands are mostly swampy, and locating them on a map can be quite a task, but Nestryga Island is larger than the settlements opposite to it… For some time, it was regarded as a grey zone», — Pletenchuk added.
