On the tenth anniversary of the downing of the MH17 passenger plane, Australia honored the memory of the victims.
This was announced by Vasyl Myroshnychenko, Ambassador of Ukraine to Australia.
“I joined the kin and fellow ambassadors from the Netherlands and Belgium to lay a wreath at the MH17 monument to honor the 298 innocent lives, including 38 Australians, that were taken by Russia. We must remain steadfast in our commitment to hold Russia accountable for this horrific war crime», — Vasyl Myroshnychenko wrote on his Facebook page.
As a reminder, the Boeing-777 flight from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur was shot down over the occupied Donbas on July 17, 2014. All 298 people on board died.
On June 19, 2019, the International Joint Investigation Team named four suspects believed to be involved in the transportation and combat use of the Buk missile system. Three of them are Russians: former FSB officer and so-called former Minister of Defense of the “DPR” Igor Girkin (Strelkov), General and at the time of the downing of the plane, Colonel of the GRU of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, Head of the “DPR GRU” Sergei Dubinsky, and Lieutenant Colonel of the GRU Oleg Pulatov. The fourth suspect is Ukrainian Leonid Kharchenko, who fought on the side of the so-called DPR. On November 17, 2022, a court hearing began in the Netherlands to announce the verdict in the MH17 case.
In March 2020, a court in the Netherlands began hearing the case of the downing of flight MH17. The court claimed that the downing of the Malaysian airliner by a missile was intentional.
The international investigation team concluded that the Buk missile system was delivered to Ukraine from Russia. Russia still denies any involvement in the downing of the plane and puts forward contradictory versions.
