The European Commission has set up a special group of officials to prepare for a possible return of Donald Trump to the White House, while the EU is developing strategies for a potential sharp change in Washington’s policy on support for Ukraine.
This was reported by the Financial Times.
«The US election is far from over, so it’s about finding out what the consequences might be in any case», — said one of the publication’s interlocutors.
It is noted that the group is also assessing the impact of a possible Kamala Harris presidency and preparing for policy changes after the US elections in November.
It emphasizes Brussels’ great concern about Trump’s possible return:
«Brussels is deeply concerned that Trump could use his second term in office to impose painful tariffs on EU exports, end US military and financial support for Ukraine, and force Kyiv to accept Moscow’s terms for ending the war.»
