Government allocates almost UAH 3 billion to restore frontline settlements

The Government has decided to allocate UAH 2.7 billion for a pilot project to restore several settlements in the frontline regions.

This was reported on the Government portal, citing a statement by Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal during a Cabinet meeting.

«At the last meeting in Chernihiv region, I instructed the Ministry of Infrastructure to urgently consider allocating UAH 2.7 billion for a pilot project to restore a number of settlements in the frontline regions… Today we are already making a direct decision to allocate funds that will accelerate the comprehensive reconstruction of these communities for the speedy return of people and the development of the local economy,» he said.

The communities in question are Yahidne in Chernihiv Region, Posad-Pokrovske in Kherson Region, Tsyrkuny in Kharkiv Region, and Trostyanets in Sumy Region.

Shmyhal also said that by another resolution, the government will involve regional administrations as construction customers in the implementation of pilot projects.

«Today we are also updating the State Regional Development Strategy for 2021-2027. We are updating it, taking into account the challenges of the war and the recommendations of the European Union,» he added.

The government’s goals include creating conditions for Ukrainians to return home. They also aim at restoring and developing infrastructure, integrating Ukrainian defenders into the community, increasing the institutional and financial capacity of local governments. Finally the government wants to synchronize regional development policy with other sectoral policies.

The Prime Minister concluded that the regions will prepare their own strategic documents. They will be based on the updated Strategy. The Cabinet of Ministers and the relevant ministry will assist.

As a reminder, approximately $2.3 billion in US dollars and euros were shipped to Russia. This happend after the US and EU imposed a ban on the export of their banknotes in March 2022. The ban followed the full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Customs data indicate that cash was transported to Russia from countries such as the UAE and Turkey
