Politico: Ukraine will present to the US the targets it wants to hit with US weapons

Ukrainian government officials are preparing to present the U.S. administration with a list of targets in Russia that could be struck using U.S. weapons. This list represents their final attempt to persuade Washington to lift restrictions on the use of these weapons.

This was reported by Politico.

«Ukraine is using the list as a last-ditch effort to convince Washington to lift the restrictions on U.S. weapons being used inside Russia.»

It is noted that Ukraine has previously submitted a list of potential targets for strikes with Western weapons. However, this time, the list is expected to be even more specific. The presentation of this list is anticipated to occur this week during the visit of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Defense Minister Rustem Umerov to the United States.

For months, the U.S. has believed that lifting these restrictions would not be strategically significant in the war, as Russia has relocated its most important targets, including aircraft, further away from the border, making them unreachable.

Nonetheless, Kyiv has identified several critical targets that could be hit with the missiles provided by the U.S. Ukraine hopes that this list will persuade President Joe Biden to reconsider his position.

«There should be no restrictions on the range of weapons for Ukraine, because terrorists have no such restrictions. Defenders of life should not face any restrictions on weapons,» Zelenskyy stated on Monday.

Shelling of Ukraine

As a reminder, on the night of August 26, the Russians launched a massive combined attack on Ukraine’s critical infrastructure, including the fuel and energy sectors. The occupiers used various types of air-, land-, and sea-launched missiles for the attack.

A total of 236 air targets were detected over Ukraine:

  • 127 missiles
  • 109 drones

According to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, some of the targets were attacked with cluster munitions by the Russians. Therefore, these areas must be demined before any repairs can begin.

In Lutsk, a person was killed, and a multi-story building was destroyed due to a missile and drone strike. The city is currently without electricity or water supply.

Additionally, one person was reported dead in the Dnipropetrovsk region, and a woman was killed in the Zhytomyr region.

As a result of the missile attack, Khmelnytskyi and the surrounding settlements were left without electricity, and private houses were damaged.
