The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has detained another agent of Russian military intelligence in Donetsk Region. The individual was scouting Ukrainian military positions in one of the most active parts of the frontline — Pokrovsk.
This was reported by the SBU press service.
«The fortified areas and firing positions of the ground units of the Armed Forces were of special interest to Russian intelligence services,» – the report said.
The enemy also sought to locate logistics centers for the repair of military equipment and ammunition warehouses of the Defense Forces.
The detained individual is a 49-year-old unemployed man from Kramatorsk. He came to the attention of Russian special services due to his pro-Kremlin activity on the banned Odnoklassniki social network. Russian intelligence recruited him remotely.
SBU agents apprehended the traitor early in his activities, detaining him at his residence. During the search, his mobile phone, used for communicating with the Russian special services, was seized.
It is also worth recalling that the SBU previously detained another Russian intelligence agent who was coordinating airstrikes in the Vinnytsia and Sumy regions. According to the investigation, he had served under contract in the Ukrainian army before deserting to work for the occupiers.
«Military counterintelligence of the SBU identified the perpetrator as a 23-year-old contract serviceman from one of Ukraine’s military units. He voluntarily left his post in May of this year,» – the report stated.
Seeking quick money through Telegram channels, he was noticed by an operative of the Main Directorate of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces (GRU), who offered him «easy» money in exchange for cooperation.
