More than 10,000 civilians have already been killed during the siege of Mariupol. This was reported by the Associated Press with reference to the mayor of Mariupol Vadym Boychenko.
The mayor said he feared the actual death toll could be much higher, nearly double the reported number. He claims that the streets were simply «littered» with corpses.
Boychenko also said that Russian forces had brought mobile cremation equipment into the city in order to dispose of the bodies. He accused the Russians of refusing to allow humanitarian convoys into the city as a means of trying to hide the consequences of their actions.
He claims that Russian troops took many bodies to a huge shopping mall with warehouses and refrigerators.
«Mobile crematoria came in the form of trucks: you open it, and there’s a pipe inside, and that’s how the bodies are burned,» the mayor said.
On April 7 the Russian occupiers forcibly evacuated the patients of Mariupol hospital №4, into Russia and the DNR controlled regions.
Mariupol has been under siege since the beginning of March. Russian troops fire missiles, and use tanks and jet systems on the city’s infrastructure on a daily basis. 90% of the city’s houses have been destroyed, and countless civilians have been killed. To cover up their crimes, Russian aggressors allegedly burn the bodies of civilians in mobile crematoriums.
It is estimated that there are now about 130,000 civilians left in the city.
Soldiers of the Azov Regiment continue to defend the city.
