The head of the Odessa regional military administration Maxim Marchenko confirmed the successful attack by the Armed Forces of Ukraine on the missile cruiser Moscow, which is part of the Russian Black Sea Fleet. It’s a lead ship of the Project 1164 Atlant class and was named after the city of Moscow and also a flagship of the Russian Black Sea Fleet.
This was reported on the official Telegram account of the head of the Odessa region.
«It has been confirmed that today’s strike has caused the missile cruiser Moscow to goexactly where it was sent by our border guards on Snake Island! Neptune missiles guarding the Black Sea have caused very serious damage to the Russian ship,” Marchenko wrote.
Neptune’s design is based on the Soviet Kh-35 anti-ship missile, with substantially improved range and electronics. The system is designed to defeat surface warships and transport vessels with a displacement of up to 5,000 tons, either in convoys or moving individually.
The system entered service with the Ukrainian Navy in March 2021.
Additionally the 36th Separate Marine Brigade named after Rear Admiral Mykhailo Bilinsky conducted a successful operation with Azov in Mariupol.
