Ukrainian Navy spokesperson: During yesterday's shelling, a quarter of the missiles were fired from the sea

A quarter of the missiles used in the massive missile attack on August 26 were fired from the sea.

This was stated by Dmytro Pletenchuk, a spokesman for the Ukrainian Navy, on Hromadske Radio.

“The enemy’s tactics have not changed. They are no longer present in the Sea of Azov, which is under our tight fire control. The Black Sea is still being used. They «quickly» leave the base, fire missiles, and return,» said Pletenchuk.

He notes that the enemy tries to launch missiles from the sea and return to the base very quickly. This process takes literally a few hours.

According to Pletenchuk, the occupiers use this type of weapon only during combined missile attacks because the effectiveness of these missiles is not what it was at the beginning of the full-scale invasion. The defense forces have learned to counter them.

“And of course, all of them were shot down,» he added.

The naval spokesman emphasized that, over time, it became clear that the characteristics of the missiles fired from the sea were not as good as Russia had claimed.

“It became clear not only to Ukrainians,» he said.

Results of the Russian missile attack on August 26

On the night of August 26, the Russians launched a massive combined attack on Ukraine’s critical infrastructure, including the fuel and energy sectors. The occupiers used various types of air-, land-, and sea-launched missiles for the attack. The results of the Russian attack were announced by Mykola Oleshchuk, Commander of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

According to him, a total of 236 air targets were detected over Ukraine, including:

• 127 missiles
• 109 drones

In particular, the Russians used:

• Three X-47M2 Kinzhal aeroballistic missiles from the airspace over the Ryazan and Lipetsk regions
• Six Iskander-M/KN-23 ballistic missiles from the Kursk and Voronezh regions of the Russian Federation and from occupied Crimea
• Seventy-seven X-101 cruise missiles from Tu-95MS aircraft from the airspace over the Volgograd region and the Caspian Sea region
• Twenty-eight Kalibr cruise missiles from surface and underwater carriers in the eastern part of the Black Sea
• Three X-22 cruise missiles from the airspace over the Voronezh region
• Ten X-59/X-69 guided missiles from Su-57 and Su-34 aircraft from the airspace over the Belgorod region and the area of occupied Mariupol
• One hundred and nine Shahed-131/136 attack drones from the Russian cities of Primorsko-Akhtarsk, Kursk, Yeysk, as well as from Cape Chauda in occupied Crimea

In total, the Ukrainian military shot down 201 air targets during the air attack: 102 missiles and 99 attack drones. Specifically:

• One X-47M2 Kinzhal aerial ballistic missile
• One Iskander-M/KN-23 ballistic missile
• One X-22 cruise missile
• Ninety-nine X-101, Kalibr cruise missiles, and X-59/69 guided missiles
• Ninety-nine Shahed-131/136 attack UAVs
