Ukraine has become a member of the European Energy Union, said President Volodymyr Zelenskyi.
«The unification of the Ukrainian and European energy systems has been completed. Now our electricity flows to the EU, and European to Ukraine! We now have a single energy system!” said Zelensky.
At midnight on Feb. 24 Ukraine’s energy system was disconnected from Russia’s and Belarus’ energy system. Ukraine had been a part of this system since Soviet times. The disconnect had been planned and this plan was not abandoned despite the events of Feb. 23 and the subsequent state of emergency that escalated into war on Feb. 24.
