The Russians have begun the forced mobilization of farmers in the occupied territories — DIU

The forced mobilization by the Russian occupiers has escalated in the temporarily occupied territories of Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions, with a particular focus on farmers.

This was reported by the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine.

Russian authorities are demanding immediate registration for military service from farmers of military age, and written directives are being sent to enforce compliance. Non-compliance by agricultural enterprises or individual farmers may result in fines of 400,000 rubles (approximately $4,500).

Despite the fines, there is no assurance of avoiding forced participation in the war against Ukraine as the DIU states. The intelligence service also issued a warning that men aged 18 to 65, and sometimes even 16- and 17-year-olds, could be forcibly mobilized by the Russians on the occupied territories.

The rationale behind these measures is explained by the intelligence service, which points out the need for the Russian army to cover personnel losses and address the decline in support for the war among the Russian population.

Furthermore, the Kremlin, at present, deems it impractical to announce a large-scale wave of mobilization in Russia to avoid worsening the social situation before the upcoming elections.
