Russia is recruiting Syrian mercenaries to the army — DIU
The Defence Intelligence of Ukraine reports that Russia is recruiting mercenaries in Syria to engage in hostilities against Ukraine.
The training is allegedly occurring on Syrian territory near the city of Aleppo and the Kuweires airfield. Approximately 1,000 mercenaries are undergoing training, with a specific focus on urban warfare. Following their training, these Syrian mercenaries will be transported to the Khmeimim airbase and then to the Russian Federation. Upon arrival in Russia, they are expected to be issued Russian passports and subsequently mobilized into the occupation army.
According to the DIU, Russia recruits individuals in Syria through travel agencies by initially promising them jobs as security guards at oil refineries in Yakutia. They are then enticed with ‘higher-paying jobs’ in Buryatia. In Ulan-Ude city, certified mercenaries are expected to be mobilized into the 5th Separate Guards Tank Brigade of the Russian Armed Forces (military unit 46108), where they will participate in fighting in Ukraine.
A video is provided below, showing some of the Syrians allegedly holding Russian passports issued within five days.
