The ongoing situation with the Russian army’s attempts to capture Avdiivka necessitates urgent action from Ukraine’s military leadership to safeguard the lives of its defenders. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy underscored this during a joint press conference with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

«As for Avdiivka, the situation has been challenging for several days. We remember the relentless actions of Russia in our towns and villages; they won’t cease until every trace of life is obliterated. Our people and military are heroically defending crucial strategic positions and logistical routes that the enemy seeks to exploit»,— Zelenskyy stated.

He assured that he is closely in touch with the military leadership, understanding the intricacies of the Avdiivka situation.

«I won’t disclose the new approaches they’re employing. Their mission is to do everything possible to prioritize the protection of our people. This is the key message from me: our military is our most valuable asset, our foremost weapon»,— added the head of state.

Emphasizing the need to minimize losses, Zelenskyy highlighted that the military leadership has received the directive, and skilled professionals are actively engaged on the battlefield, knowing precisely what needs to be done.

Earlier, Oleksandr Tarnavsky, the commander of the Tavria operational and strategic grouping of troops, announced the withdrawal from the Zenit position on the southeastern outskirts of Avdiivka after months of confrontation. Additionally, it was reported that the Russian Volunteer Corps is operating in the Avdiivka sector in the Donetsk region.
