New Zealand has announced a donation of over $16 million to Ukraine as part of a new aid package. The commitment includes ongoing military training support for Ukrainian forces until June 2025, with 97 New Zealand military personnel providing intelligence, communications, and logistics assistance.

The breakdown of the aid package is as follows:

  • $6.5 million to the UK-managed International Fund for Ukraine for the purchase of weapons and ammunition.
  • $7 million in humanitarian aid.
  • $3 million to the World Bank’s Trust Fund for Assistance, Recovery, Reconstruction, and Reform in Ukraine.

New Zealand’s Minister of Defence, Judith Collins, emphasized the importance of showing international support for Ukraine and signaling to Russia that countries like New Zealand back Ukraine’s self-defense.

Additionally, New Zealand is working on implementing new sanctions against Russia in response to its invasion of Ukraine. Following Russia’s invasion on February 24, 2022, New Zealand had previously pledged over $100 million in financial assistance to Ukraine.
