«Sergey Kotov» ship was equipped with a modular weapons system, a feature not implemented in other similar Russian projects, as revealed by Dmytro Pletenchuk, spokesman for the Ukrainian Navy, during an interview with Hromadske Radio.
According to Pletenchuk, the modular weapons system allowed for the replacement of modules, enabling the removal of one module and the installation of another without radical onboard system integration, avoiding the need for extensive modifications.
«They were not supposed to be integrated into the onboard system in a «radical» way, when something has to be «cut out». This was supposed to be one of the first such projects with modular weapons, but it did not go further», — he elaborated providing insights into the innovative design of the ship.
As a reminder, on the night of March 5, Ukrainian forces successfully destroyed the Russian patrol ship Sergei Kotov in the Black Sea. The operation, carried out by a special unit of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine, Group 13, utilized Magura V5 maritime drones, as reported by the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine. The ship, potentially carrying more than 80 people, was effectively neutralized in the operation.
