A tree saved the residents of a high-rise in Sumy during a Russian attack — journalist
Not only residential multi-storey buildings in Sumy were damaged by Russian UAVs, but also a polyclinic, a kindergarten, and a church. Remarkably, one building was spared destruction as a tree, struck by an enemy drone, absorbed the impact.
Alyona Yatsyna, a journalist and co-founder of Kordon.media, shared these details on Hromadske Radio. According to her, Sumy experienced a Russian «Shahed» attack in the early morning, with three enemy drones hovering over the city.
«Four drones were initially present, but our defenders managed to intercept one before it reached the city. The remaining three targeted different areas, all within residential zones. Notably, one «Shahed» drone hit a multi-storey building, and the only reason there weren’t more casualties was that it collided with a tree before reaching the target, causing it to explode near the house», — explained the Hromadske Radio source.
As a consequence of the impact, a fire erupted, damaging balconies and affecting a children’s clinic situated on the building’s first floor.
«People in the vicinity suffered from shrapnel wounds, glass cuts; everyone is in a state of shock… Another «Shahed» drone struck a different area, landing in the middle of a yard near a playground. Windows in the surrounding five-storey buildings were shattered, balconies were damaged, and the area was scorched, with over 20 private cars sustaining damage», — Yatsyna reported.
According to her information, aligning with the regional prosecutor’s office, seven people, including a child, were injured in the nighttime attack in Sumy. Thankfully, no fatalities or severe injuries were reported.
Additionally, a church and a kindergarten incurred damage from one of the attacks. A third enemy UAV targeted a civilian infrastructure facility, with experts currently assessing the site of impact.
