According to the latest estimates, the damage inflicted on energy infrastructure by Russian attacks has reached approximately $11 billion, with the figure continually rising. Deputy Energy Minister Mykola Kolisnyk made this statement on Hromadske Radio.
«We are consistently reassessing the losses because, unfortunately, they continue to mount. Based on the latest assessments, the total losses in the energy and electricity sectors amount to about $11 billion. This figure does not include strategic losses such as ZNPP or the broader negative impact on the energy system. Regrettably, these losses are on an upward trajectory. The state is diligently documenting this amount; we will not leave it unaddressed. It will undoubtedly form the basis of legal action and claims for compensation to restore the energy sector», — explained Mykola Kolisnyk.
In March, Russia initiated the most forceful attack on Ukraine’s energy facilities since the onset of the war. The extensive missile strikes on Ukrainian energy infrastructure conducted by Russia on March 22-23 significantly weakened Ukraine’s energy system. Particularly, Kharkiv faces the most severe energy crisis. The bombardment resulted in the destruction of a thermal power plant and all transformer substations in the city.
