It was not a decommunisation, but de-imperialisation of the Russian Navy, because the «Kommuna» ship was built during the reign of the so-called Russian Empire.

This was stated on Hromadske Radio by Captain (3rd rank), spokesman for the Ukrainian Navy Dmytro Pletenchuk:

Pletenchuk emphasized that the vessel, constructed during the era of the Russian Empire, served as a functional support vessel, even participating in operations such as artifact retrieval at the wreckage site of the «Moskva» cruiser. However, due to the extent of damage sustained, it is deemed non-combat-ready and may require extensive restoration efforts, if feasible at all.

Pletenchuk highlighted the significance of the vessel within the Russian auxiliary fleet in the Black Sea, noting its unique capabilities in servicing submarines and the absence of a full replacement. He underscored the practical importance of the ship rather than its symbolic value.

On April 21st, Crimean public media reported explosions in Sevastopol, coinciding with a declared missile threat in Crimea. Allegedly, the Russian military repelled an anti-ship missile attack on the northern side of Sevastopol Bay, as stated by «governor of Sevastopol» Mikhail Razvozhayev. However, a video circulating on social media depicted smoke and fire among the ships in Sevastopol Bay following the explosion in the city, with the author remarking in a voiceover about a missile hitting a steamer.

Subsequently, Ukrainian Navy spokesman Dmytro Pletenchuk confirmed the attack on the rescue ship «Kommuna» in Sevastopol.
