Tamaz Gambarashvili, head of the Vovchansk city military administration, confirmed in a statement to Hromadske Radio that evacuation efforts are underway for the residents of Vovchansk and surrounding areas in Kharkiv Region. Authorities, police, and volunteers are collaborating to facilitate the safe departure of people from the region.
«We are presently evacuating the population. Most individuals are departing using their own vehicles. However, in tandem with the humanitarian center, we’re coordinating the evacuation for locals without personal transportation. We’re partnering with volunteers and law enforcement to evacuate residents from Vovchansk and nearby settlements», — stated the administrative head.
The urgency of the evacuation is underscored by the intense shelling of the city by the Russian army:
«Residents report unprecedented levels of shelling. Staying in Vovchansk at this time poses significant danger. Since three in the morning, there has been continuous UAV activity, artillery bombardment, and missile attacks».
While there’s currently no precise information regarding casualties resulting from the Russian shelling of Vovchansk, substantial evidence points to widespread destruction.
