The issue of allowing Ukraine to strike the territory of the Russian Federation with Western weapons, including American ones, has begun to move forward.
Ivan Stupak, a military expert at the Ukrainian Institute for the Future and former SBU officer, spoke about this on Hromadske Radio.
«Just remember: six months ago, there was no question of any weapons being used to strike Russian territory at the 1991 border. It was a taboo! Now we are already discussing when this permission will be granted.
There are two leading countries, the United States and the United Kingdom, in which the first level has already been overcome, meaning that the foreign ministry says they are not against it… In my opinion, in each of these countries there are still two such large outposts: the military and the position of the White House and Downing Street. That is, the final decision will be up to the politicians, who must at least shake their heads or remain meaningfully silent, and there must be some kind of consent from them», — the expert said.
In his opinion, such consent will be «perhaps with limited options,» but it will be given because «there is no longer a conditional taboo.» This permission will be announced in a rather veiled and laconic manner, said Stupak.
Earlier, MP Yehor Cherneyev said that unofficially, the US is sending signals that the White House has already begun discussing a decision to allow Ukraine to strike with US weapons on Russian territory.
