Parliament adopts draft law on military police in first reading

The Verkhovna Rada passed a draft law on military police in the first reading. Draft law No. 6569-d was supported by 247 MPs.

This was reported by MPs Iryna Gerashchenko and Oleksiy Honcharenko.

The military police is proposed to be created as a military formation with law enforcement functions, tasked with ensuring law and order and military discipline. The draft law was registered by MPs from the mono-majority and the Dovira group.

Iryna Gerashchenko said that European Solidarity voted against the document, noting that it «creates another repressive body.»

«Given that there are no military courts and military prosecutors in Ukraine, the military police will be another repressive body against the military and police themselves», — Gerashchenko wrote.
