People who remain in or are willing to leave the village of New York report a large number of dead people, and this number has increased over the past week as Russian troops began to storm Toretsk and heavily shell New York.
This was reported by journalist Serhiy Gorbatenko on Hromadske Radio:
«Speaking about the visit to the village, we made three trips there with volunteer Yevhen Tkachev, an employee of the Proliska humanitarian mission. Every time we went there, we saw new tracks on the road. Russian troops have shelled the road leading to the village of New York, so it is dangerous to go there.»
He said that when they arrived in the village, they saw a huge column of black smoke coming from one of the industrial enterprises in the village, and there was an unpleasant smell and taste of chemicals in the air. Houses were burning, and many buildings were destroyed. Something is constantly flying there.
«People who stayed there or volunteered to leave the village talk about a large number of dead people, and this number has increased over the past week, when Russian troops began to storm Toretsk and heavily shell New York. It’s about 10 km from Toretsk to New York, and one of the streets we took people from is located one kilometre from the red zone. It’s scary to be there, and panic is spreading among people,» – the journalist said.
