The Institute of War reported a military clash in the Sumy region.
This was reported by Vadym Mysnyk, spokesman for the Siversk Operational and Tactical Group of Troops (OTG), on Hromadske Radio.
«On the northern border, namely in the Chernihiv and Sumy regions, the situation remains tense but fully controlled by the Ukrainian Defence Forces. The enemy is sticking to its tactics of shelling settlements and defence facilities along the entire defence line. It is also actively using subversive rocket launchers.
The relief features of the area and the geographical location of the settlements should be taken into account. There are junctional settlements that are located right on the border – on our side and on the Russian side – and are practically in contact. We are building defences in such a way as to prevent the enemy from advancing deeper into our territories.»
Vadym Mysnyk says that on the military side, the Russians’ goal is to keep Ukrainian troops on their toes so that combat units cannot be moved to other, hotter areas of the frontline.
«Their tactics have not changed for many months – they are trying to identify our strongholds. They are actively using aerial reconnaissance. They rarely move equipment to the border because we destroy it. That’s why they use infantry and subversive reconnaissance groups.
Recently, the number of drones has increased. Reconnaissance UAVs, strike drones, and the use of FPV drones have increased. For our part, we also do not let them live in peace. We destroy their ammunition, equipment, and personnel as much as possible.»
The spokesman for the Siversk Operational and Tactical Group of Troops (OTG) believes that the enemy should not be underestimated.
«They have equipment, electronic warfare, FPV, strike UAVs, and other technical means. Therefore, we need to use all the tricks. The main thing on our part is to detect their attempts in a timely manner and repel them.
Even in those settlements that are almost on the border, there are still people who refuse to leave their homes. These are mostly elderly people. This is a problem for us. We cannot fully use our combat capabilities. But the regional military administrations are taking people out. Russians are shelling almost all settlements along the border. They use terrorist tactics. They are making living conditions impossible for the population.»
As a reminder, at night and in the morning of June 30, 2024, Russian troops fired seven times at the border areas and settlements of the Sumy region. There were 29 explosions.
This was reported by the Sumy Regional Military Administration.
The Yunakivska, Bilopilska, Krasnopilska, and Shalyhinska communities were shelled. The enemy fired at the Krasnopilska community with mortars and artillery. The Russians attacked the Yunakivska community with an FPV drone. The Russian army attacked the Bilopilska community with artillery. Russian troops dropped three mines on the territory of the Shalyhyne community.
