Minister: Several thousand Ukrainians have already signed up to join the Volunteer Legion in Poland
Several thousand people have already registered to join the Ukrainian Legion in Poland, a new volunteer military unit.
This was announced by Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski at the NATO Public Forum during the NATO Summit in Washington.
«In Poland, we are starting to prepare the first Ukrainian brigade consisting of volunteers. We have up to a million Ukrainians of both sexes, and several thousand have already registered to participate. Interestingly, many of them are eager to serve and rotate with their compatriots, but they insist on proper training and equipment before being sent into battle», — Sikorski said.
Poland will train and equip these soldiers, and then the volunteers will be sent to Ukraine as a unit, with the right to return to Poland after their rotation.
«If every European country did this, Ukraine would have several brigades», — the minister added.
To recap, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk signed a security agreement in Warsaw. The agreement states that the countries will form a volunteer military unit, the Ukrainian Legion, from Ukrainians residing in the EU.
