The first seven women who served their sentences in prison have signed a contract with the Armed Forces of Ukraine. They expressed a desire to perform military service under a contract in exchange for parole.
This information was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Justice.
The women successfully passed the military medical commission and received approval from military unit commanders to serve in specific units of the Defense Forces.
“The law on the mobilization of convicted persons adopted by the Verkhovna Rada provides the possibility of joining the army not only for men but also for women. However, previously convicted women had not expressed a desire to be mobilized. Currently, we have a decision on the first seven convicts who decided to sign a contract with the Armed Forces», — said Deputy Minister of Justice Olena Vysotska.
According to the ministry, since the law on the possibility for convicts to join the ranks of the Defense Forces came into force, 6,101 convicts have expressed a desire to join the Armed Forces. Of these, 3,823 people have already left penitentiary institutions for training.
