Slavyanin ferry's role in supplying Russian group in southern Ukraine was very important — Ukrainian Navy spokesman
The role of the Slavyanin ferry, which was hit by the Ukrainian Armed Forces the day before, was very important in supplying the Russian group in southern Ukraine. It was the last third ferry used to transfer railroad cars in the Azov-Black Sea region.
This was reported by Dmytro Pletenchuk, a spokesman for the Ukrainian Navy, on Hromadske Radio.
According to him, the Russians used the ferry extensively for military logistics because transferring railroad cars is a difficult task, and they do not risk using a bridge to transfer equipment.
“The role of the ferry in supplying the group in southern Ukraine was very important. It was the last third ferry to transfer cars in the Azov-Black Sea region. Now they are faced not only with the problem of losing this vessel but also with the problem of having no alternative. This blow is important. It is a blow to the military logistics of the Russian occupiers, which supplied, among other things, the groups in southern Ukraine», – Pletenchuk said.
He also added that, given this was the only way to transfer railroad cars, the ferry ran frequently.
“There are no such ferries in the Black Sea region. In Crimea, the Russians are using all available means, including the Prometheus S-500 air defense system. It is impossible to say they are naked, barefoot, and girded in Crimea. Quite the contrary, they are being pulled there, replaced, and this air defense system is periodically destroyed, but it is still being restored there.
The bridge is in line behind the ferry in principle and, despite being significantly damaged and used in a limited capacity to ensure logistics, it is still used», – said the spokesman for the Ukrainian Navy.
In addition, Pletenchuk said that the families of Russian sailors have already left Crimea, as have the families of special services. There is already an understanding among those who arrived ten years ago that Russia is not there forever.
As a reminder, on July 23, the Ukrainian military hit the Russian ferry Slavyanin, which was used for military logistics.
