Ukrainian doctor Vitaliy Slavnov died in the center of the Czech capital, Prague, as reported by Radio Prague on Friday, August 9.
According to the publication, the incident occurred on August 8. Dr. Slavnov was at a tram stop when, during a heavy downpour with strong winds, a piece of the cornice from a historic building broke off, pierced the glass roof of the stop, and fatally injured him. He died on the spot from a head injury.
The deceased was identified as Ukrainian doctor Vitaliy Slavnov, according to a social media post by his friend Oleksandr Slemzin.
He was a father of three and founder of a unique medical clinic. Oleksandr Slemzin described Slavnov as an outstanding surgeon, a man with a bright soul, and a true gentleman. He expressed his sorrow, noting that Slavnov was only 45 years old and could have saved many more lives.
Firefighters were working at the site to check the stability of the façade to prevent further incidents. As a result, they dismantled about 100 kilograms of unstable material from the cornice that could have also collapsed. The police opened an investigation into the incident as negligent homicide.
