Ministry of Defence codifies Ukrainian APC «Khorunzhyi»

The Ministry of Defence of Ukraine has approved the delivery of the domestic armoured personnel carrier Khorunzhyi to the Ukrainian Armed Forces. This vehicle is the result of a deep modernization of the Soviet BTR-60.

This information was reported by the press centre of the Ministry of Defence.

“The Khorunzhyi armoured personnel carrier can be produced in six variations: a standard armoured personnel carrier, a personnel carrier, a medical evacuation vehicle, a repair and recovery vehicle, a command and control vehicle, and a self-propelled mortar vehicle.”

It was noted that the hull of the Ukrainian armoured personnel carrier is made of high-quality Finnish steel. This improves the ballistic protection of the vehicle without increasing its weight. The hull is also protected around the perimeter from 7.62 mm steel-core bullets. The frontal armour can withstand shots from a large-calibre machine gun at a distance of 10 metres.

The design of the hull bottom and special mine-resistant seats protects the troops from explosive devices equivalent to 6 kg of TNT.

“The Khorunzhyi is much more powerful than the BTR-60. Instead of two 90-horsepower petrol engines, a 330-horsepower diesel engine is installed at the front of the new Ukrainian APC. It accelerates the combat vehicle to a speed of more than 80 km/h, and the capacity of the fuel tanks provides a range of over five hundred kilometres.”

The Ministry of Defence states that the new APC is equipped with modern electronics, video surveillance cameras, an air conditioning system, and an autonomous generator, allowing the armoured vehicle to operate when the engine is off.

The new Ukrainian armoured personnel carrier is equipped with a combat module that includes either a 14.5 mm machine gun or a 30×113 mm cannon.

On August 24, the Ukrainian military used the Palianytsia drone missile against the Russian occupiers for the first time.

This was announced by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during the Independence Day celebrations.

According to him, the drone missile is a weapon of a “completely new class.” The use of this drone missile resulted in the defeat of the enemy, the president said.

“And we know that it will be very difficult for Russia to even pronounce what exactly has arrived. It is difficult to counteract, but still very easy to understand why,” he added.
