Rada appeals to G7 for support in countering Russian aggression
The Verkhovna Rada has adopted an appeal to the parliaments and governments of the G7 member states. The document urges them to continue supporting Ukraine in countering Russia’s armed aggression.
This was announced by MP Yaroslav Zheleznyak, who specified that the relevant resolution, No. 11537, was supported by 317 MPs.
“On behalf of the Ukrainian people, the Verkhovna Rada calls on international partners to show unity and determination in defending the goals and principles of the UN Charter and to counteract the criminal actions of the Russian Federation, which are aimed at destroying Ukraine as a state, undermining the global security architecture, and dividing the international community», — the statement reads.
Ukraine urges the G7 countries to counteract the aggressor state’s attempts to “legitimize” its blatant violations of the UN Charter. The parliamentarians also call for promoting the active participation of UN member states in the implementation of the Peace Formula.
In addition, they emphasize the need to consolidate efforts to provide financial and economic assistance to Ukraine, particularly to restore energy infrastructure and provide humanitarian aid.
The Verkhovna Rada calls on the G7 to intensify its efforts to provide Ukraine with military assistance, including shortening the timeframe for its delivery.
The statement also calls for lifting all restrictions on Ukraine’s use of long-range Western-made weapons to strike all legitimate military targets in Russia.
Attack on Poltava
As a reminder, Poltava was recently hit by a ballistic missile attack. The Russians fired two ballistic missiles at the Military Communications Institute, resulting in 180 people being injured and 41 people killed.
According to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the missiles struck the grounds of the educational institution and a neighboring hospital. One of the buildings of the Institute of Communications was partially destroyed, trapping people under the rubble. Many were rescued.
Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko said that rescuers have localized the fire and are continuing to clear the rubble. So far, 25 people have been rescued, 11 of them from under the debris. All victims were immediately taken to doctors for medical care.
Starting on 4 September, Poltava and the surrounding region will observe three days of mourning for the victims of the Russian ballistic missile attack.
