The Verkhovna Rada supported the creation of the Unmanned Systems Forces
The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has voted to create a separate branch of the Armed Forces, known as the Unmanned Systems Forces. These amendments to the law «On the Armed Forces of Ukraine,» bill #11507, were supported by 294 MPs.
This was announced by MPs Iryna Gerashchenko and Yaroslav Zheleznyak.
“The current draft law establishes the legal framework for creating the Unmanned Systems Forces as a separate branch of the armed forces. It also approves staff positions for working with drones, training personnel, systematizing experience, and scaling up production», — Gerashchenko wrote.
The purpose of the Unmanned Systems Forces is to enhance the capabilities of the Armed Forces by using robotic air, sea, and ground systems. It also aims to ensure readiness to deploy such systems for their intended purposes.
In June, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a decree on the creation of the Unmanned Systems Forces. Now it has been enshrined in law.
According to Article 107 of the Constitution of Ukraine, the President decided to enact the National Security and Defence Council (NSDC) decision of 25 June «On the establishment of the Unmanned Systems Forces as a separate branch within the Armed Forces of Ukraine.» The Secretary of the NSDC is responsible for overseeing the implementation of this decision.
On 6 February, Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a decree providing for the creation of the USF as a separate branch of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
This new branch was officially established on May 7. The Cabinet of Ministers supported the draft presidential decree on its creation. On 10 June, Colonel Vadym Sukharevskyi was appointed as the commander of the Unmanned Systems Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The symbol of the new branch is a swallow created by a neural network.
