Azov troops regain control of part of New York in Donetsk region

The Azov Brigade has regained control of part of the village of New York in the Donetsk Region and successfully unblocked Ukrainian troops from Russian encirclement.

This was reported by the brigade.

The soldiers have managed to stabilize the situation, but it remains tense. Russian forces conduct up to 15 assaults per day in the brigade’s area of responsibility. Despite the intense fighting, the soldiers continue to hold the line and counterattack effectively.

«The enemy has repeatedly claimed to have completely occupied New York. However, this is yet another manipulation by the occupiers. The defense forces control part of the settlement and are doing everything possible to liberate Ukrainian territories», — Azov stated.

The Azov Brigade has been involved in the fighting in and around New York to improve its tactical position. The brigade notes that when Azov was deployed, the situation on the front line was described as «catastrophic.»

New York is a village in Ukraine, located within the Toretsk city territorial community in the Bakhmut district of Donetsk Region. It sits on the Kryvyi Torets River, 10 km from Toretsk and 38 km from Donetsk.

As a reminder, president of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized that the lack of long-range weapons prompted the operation in Russia’s Kursk region. He discussed this during an interview with NBC News.

He stated that Ukraine expected long-range weapons, but received them in limited numbers. This meant that Ukraine didn’t have enough of these weapons, and not many long-range missiles and shells. Meanwhile, the intelligence informed Kyiv that Russia was planning to create a «buffer zone».
