The enemy attacked Nikopol again: a woman was killed
Yesterday, the occupiers continued attacking the Nikopol district and the city of Nikopol until late in the evening. They used Grad multiple rocket launchers, heavy artillery, and kamikaze drones.
Hromadske Radio correspondent Anna Tseluyko reported on the consequences of these attacks on Hromadske Radio.
«Over the past day, one multi-storey building in Nikopol was damaged. The Russians struck it with a drone. Fortunately, there were no casualties. However, later, an 80-year-old woman was killed, and two other people were injured during shelling of the private sector», — the correspondent said.
She added that the injured individuals are now in the hospital, and their condition is stable.
According to Serhiy Lysak, head of the Dnipro Regional Military Administration, the strikes hit the communities of Nikopol, Myrivska, and Marhanetska.
A five-storey building, 10 private houses, 3 garages, an outbuilding, and a car were damaged. A sports school also sustained damage. Additionally, power lines were struck, causing dry grass to catch fire, which was later extinguished by rescuers.
Security situation in Nikopol
Since the summer of 2022, 61 people have been killed by Russian shelling in Nikopol, including two children—girls aged 16 and 14. Nearly 500 others have been injured.
«We have data from the beginning of the shelling in summer 2022. People have been injured with varying degrees of severity».
In addition, almost 6,000 houses have been either destroyed or damaged, mostly private buildings and those along the coastline, Anna explained.
Regarding the water supply situation in the city, the correspondent stated:
«Overall, in the entire Nikopol district, the water situation in Nikopol is stable. We have already connected to the main water supply system built by the state, so we do have water».
However, interruptions still occur when the Russians target water supply networks, resulting in water outages for several hours, Anna said.
«In general, the situation with infrastructure is stable. Also, according to a government resolution, Nikopol is exempt from rolling blackouts, just like the 20-kilometre zone around the nuclear power plant. We only experience «combat» blackouts when there is a Russian attack on electricity or water infrastructure.»
The correspondent noted that the city had considered starting the school year in a mixed format, but the regional administration did not approve the idea due to security concerns. As a result, classes are currently held online only.
«We had the idea, but the military administration didn’t allow it because the security situation in Nikopol remains consistently bad. Drones have joined the artillery attacks—more than 200 drones fly into the city each week. Most of them target vehicles. There’s a growing tendency for people to stop using cars. Some of my friends have moved their cars to other cities and now ride bicycles to get around.»
As a result, schools and kindergartens in the city remain closed for in-person learning, Anna said.
«The city has its own air raid alert system that warns of the threat of shelling. Unfortunately, it often sounds after the first salvo. When drones are involved, it activates earlier», — the correspondent added.
There are fewer people on the streets due to drone attacks, Anna said. She explained that artillery attacks can be tracked and «the area of damage can be predicted.» But with drones, it’s more difficult. They can change their trajectory and even reach the city centre. Therefore, during a drone attack, people rely on monitoring chats and, aware of the danger, avoid going outside and stay in shelters.
