«Iron Butterflies». Ukraine's State Cinema Agency Plans Financing a Documentary on the Malaysian MH17 Crash

Ukraine’s State Cinema Agency concluded a contract with «’Babylon 13′ Creative Association» to finance a film on the crash of the Malaysian Boeing MH17 shot over Donbas in 2014.

According to the Agency’s press service, the film «Iron Butterflies», over 2,300,000 Hryvnyas (over 90,000 USD)  of public money will be allocated for the film’s production, which amounts to 54 percent of the film’s budget. 

The film’s plot synopsis explains the film’s title:  

«Iron butterflies are shrapnel charges of the BUK missile with which Russians killed 298 passengers of the Malaysian Flight MH17 in the summer of 2014, having hit the plane in the sky over Donbas.»  

Roman Lyuby is the film’s director and scriptwriter, with Volodymyr Tykhy and Andriy Kotlyar its producers. 

The film will be released in Ukraine in the second half of 2020.
