Over the last two days over 60 thousand people have fled from Sumy, Trostyanets, and Krasnopillya via humanitarian corridors, announced Deputy Prime Minister, Minister for Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories of Ukraine Iryna Vereshchuk. In her address to Ukrainians and the international community today, Vereshchuk talked about the efficacy of the humanitarian corridors that were created to evacuate civilians from areas of heavy fighting.

“Almost 20 thousand people were evacuated from Bucha, Irpen, Gostomel and Vorzel yesterday. 52 orphans were evacuated from Vorzel yesterday and 55 women from the maternity hospital in Vorzel. The evacuations are still underway,” said Vereshchuk.

She added that an additional three thousand people have been evacuated from Izium and that in Volnovakha, which now appears to have fallen to Russian forces, a humanitarian corridor could not be opened.

“I appeal to the whole world: help Mariupol! There is a real humanitarian crisis,” said Vereshchuk.

She added that once again, it was not possible to get humanitarian aid into the city. During the last attempt it was not possible to bring resources such as water, food and medicine into the city, due to constant heavy fire.

Vereshchuk reminded everyone that Ukraine made an agreement with Russia to provide multiple evacuation routs for civilians and that a ceasefire had been negotiated during the hours of 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Wednesday.
