About 700 people, both military and civilians, have died in Chernihiv since the beginning of the war. Approximately 70 bodies are still unidentified, the rest of the dead have been identified. There are still 40 people considered missing.
These numbers announced at a press conference at Ukrinform by Mayor Vladislav Atroshenko.
“At present about 40 people are missing. Most likely they can be considered dead, as many of them were last seen near buildings and cars that were destroyed by the enemy,” said the mayor.
According to Atroshenko’s estimates, approximately 80,000 to 95,000 people remain in Chernihiv. Before the start of Russia’s war against Ukraine, the city had between 285,000 and 290,000 inhabitants.
Vyacheslav Chaus, Chernihiv OVA head, advised residents not to return to their city.
The Russian army previously aimed at the graves of anti-terrorist operation units.
In other news, 163 residents have been identified in Bucha, Kyiv Region, and about 320 bodies of Buchans killed by the Russian occupiers have been collected in the city so far. And in Borodyantsi, which was liberated from Russian occupiers, the bodies of 26 residents were found under the rubble of three houses.
