The task of the new forces is to replace the infantryman, to pull him away from the front line — a veteran of the Russian-Ukrainian war
The task of the new unmanned systems forces is to replace infantrymen as much as possible, pulling people away from the front line.
This was reported on Hromadske Radio by Maria Berlinska, a veteran of the Russian-Ukrainian war, a member of the Arms Advocacy Team for Ukraine in the United States, and head of the Aerial Reconnaissance Support Center:
«Vadym Sukharevskyi, as the new commander, presented a number of tasks facing the new command, and there is a fairly wide range of tasks, from recruiting and training to the vision of development. What should the robotic units look like, and what should happen in the near future.»
According to her, it is important to understand that this command was created for the first time, and there are different opinions on how it should develop and what the priority tasks should be, but «no one argues that we should all be guided by the same philosophy.»
«The philosophy is that robots come first, then people. Robotic systems should replace direct human involvement. The same ground-based robotic system can actually perform most of the functions of an infantryman, from delivering cargo, evacuating the wounded, monitoring the situation, providing fire cover, mining, demining, and, obviously, replacing the infantryman as much as possible, pulling people away from the front line.
If we are talking about the technologies that will be used at the operational and strategic level, we are all interested in bringing the war to the territory of Russia as much as possible. This will mean strikes on legitimate military targets, logistics, command posts, warehouses, and training grounds. All the infrastructure that provides a shaft of fire», ؘ– Berlinska said.
She added that it is necessary to knock out the Russians on the approaches as much as possible so that ammunition and fuel simply do not reach the front line and are defeated at a distance of 100-200, 500 km, and beyond.
On the evening of June 10, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine announced the appointment of the head of the Unmanned Systems Forces.
“In accordance with the order of the Minister of Defense of Ukraine of June 10, 2024, Colonel Vadym Sukharevskyi was appointed Commander of the Unmanned Systems Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine», ؘ– the statement reads.
