The Prosecutor General’s Office received information that, in the Donetsk region, Russian commanders ordered that Ukrainian soldiers not be taken prisoner but instead be beheaded. The beheading of a Ukrainian soldier has been documented.

Prosecutor General Andriy Kostin reported this.

These criminal orders were given at the battalion and company leadership levels of the occupation forces.

«New horrific evidence of the criminal policy of the Russian Federation aimed at the destruction of Ukrainians. This is a terrible barbarism that has no place in the 21st century. It is yet another proof that the war crimes committed by the aggressor are not isolated incidents, but part of a planned strategy by the Russian regime.

We will not let these crimes go unpunished. I call on the entire civilised world to isolate and punish the terrorist country», — Kostin wrote.

As a reminder, since December 2023 and as of early May 2024, the Russian occupiers have executed at least 15 Ukrainian servicemen during their attempts to surrender. Another six soldiers were shot by the occupiers after they surrendered. These data are provided by the international human rights organisation Human Rights Watch (HRW).
