Missile attack on Ukraine: almost 30 dead and over 100 injured

On July 8, explosions occurred in several regions of Ukraine as Russian occupiers launched 38 missiles at the country. Air defense forces managed to shoot down 30 of them.

  • Missiles shot down included:
  • 1/1 X-47M2 Kinzhal aeroballistic missile
  • 3/4 Iskander-M ballistic missiles
  • 11/13 X-101 cruise missiles
  • 12/14 Kalibr cruise missiles
  • 3/3 X-59/X-69 guided missiles

Additionally, the occupiers used one 3M22 Zircon missile and two X-22 cruise missiles in Ukraine.

As a result of the missile attacks, more than 50 civilian objects were damaged, and 28 people were killed.

This information was announced by the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), Ihor Klymenko.

«Russia has damaged more than 50 civilian objects, including residential buildings, a business center, and two medical facilities. Twenty-eight people were killed: 11 in the Dnipro region and 17 in Kyiv,» Klymenko said.

According to him, a total of 112 people were injured, with 62 in the Dnipro region, 48 in the capital, and 2 in the Kyiv region.

«Emergency and rescue operations are ongoing at the sites of the biggest impacts. Rescuers, police, and utility companies are working. Special thanks to all the caring people who rushed to help,» the Interior Minister added.

Following the attack, Ukraine is convening an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council.

This was announced by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy during his visit to Poland.

«Ukraine is now initiating the convening of an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council in connection with Russian strikes on civilian infrastructure, including a children’s hospital,» Zelenskyy said during a joint press conference with his Polish counterpart Andrzej Duda.

The head of state said that Russia is already spreading false information that the destruction of the Okhmatdyt Children’s Hospital in Kyiv was caused by Ukrainian air defense.

Kyiv

The consequences of the attack were felt in almost all districts of Kyiv, where aid centers were set up in three districts.

Debris from the missile strike was recorded falling in the Solomianskyi, Dniprovskyi, Darnytskyi, Desnianskyi, Shevchenkivskyi, and Holosiivskyi districts. Preliminary data reported:

  • An office building was damaged in the Solomianskyi district.
  • In the Holosiivskyi district, debris fell near a residential building.
  • In the Dniprovskyi district, debris is burning in a residential building.
  • A private house was damaged in the Darnytskyi district.
  • A house is on fire in the Desnianskyi district.

Russia struck the Okhmatdyt Children’s Hospital with an X-101 strategic cruise missile. As a result, at least two adults were killed, and children were wounded.

Relevant evidence, including fragments of the rear body of the X-101 missile with a serial number and part of the rudder, has already been found at the site of the tragedy.

«The Security Service will do everything possible to ensure that the enemy faces maximum retribution for each of its war crimes, including today’s attack on Ukraine. This retribution will be both legal and moral. A terrorist state is not an abstract concept. There are specific names of murderers. And nothing will save them from justice,» said SBU Head Vasyl Malyuk.

Dnipro

According to Olga Zhuravel, a correspondent for Hromadske Radio, residents of Dnipro heard a series of explosions around 11:00 a.m.

According to the head of the Dnipropetrovsk district administration, Serhiy Lysak, a man was killed, and 12 people were injured on the morning of July 8 as a result of the Russian attack.

Kryvyi Rih

The head of the city military administration of Kryvyi Rih, Oleksandr Vilkul, reported several hits in the city. The Russians hit the administrative building of an industrial enterprise. The aftermath is being cleaned up. Preliminary information indicates 10 dead and 31 wounded. The injured are in the hospital, with 10 seriously injured.

Three people died in the town of Pokrovsk, Donetsk region, as a result of Russian shelling, according to the Donetsk Military Administration.
