Withdrawal from Kanal neighborhood in Chasiv Yar improves logistics of Ukrainian forces — spokesperson of 24th brigade

Ukrainian forces have recently withdrawn from the Kanal neighborhood in Chasovyi Yar to take up more favorable positions and preserve personnel. According to Ivan Petrychak, a spokesman for the 24th Separate Mechanized Brigade named after King Danylo, this decision was made by the high command to improve the logistics of the Ukrainian military. He shared this information on Hromadske Radio.

«The Kanal neighborhood is cut off from the city by the Siverskyi Donets-Donbas canal, which crosses the city and serves as an irrigation system. It’s a deep sinkhole that prevents easy passage of equipment and vehicles. Logistics have improved for us because we no longer need to go there and take the wounded out.»

This did not negatively affect the defense of Chasovyi Yar; rather, it improved the situation. This canal is an obstacle for the Russians, along which a defense line is being built. It can be called the line of contact, where small arms fire continues and our military are working.»

According to Petrychak, a small portion of the civilian population remains in Chasovyi Yar, as in other similar settlements. These are mostly elderly people for whom it is very difficult to leave the city for various reasons.

«The houses are completely destroyed, with only basements left. People live despite the lack of electricity, gas, and water.

We, as the military, urge people to help their grandparents and other relatives leave and save their lives, because the Russians do not choose where and what to shoot at. TOSs, Grads, and aircraft that enter the area of destruction destroy absolutely everything.»

A representative of the brigade’s press service explains that Chasovyi Yar is a dominant height, making it of strategic importance to the Russians. Control of Chasovyi Yar could allow the enemy to amass forces and prepare a foothold for further advancement to other settlements.

«The Russians are trying to wrest control of the road to Kostiantynivka, and beyond it are Druzhkivka and Kramatorsk, so control of Chasovyi Yar is very important. The task of the defense forces is to disrupt the enemy’s plans and hold this height, even if it is very difficult. The 24th Brigade is working on this», — says Petrychak.
