Pentagon reveals details of new aid package for Ukraine
The US Department of Defense has announced a new defense aid package for Ukraine on its Independence Day. The Pentagon also specified the amount of aid: $125 million.
This information was stated on the department’s website.
“This announcement represents the sixty-fourth tranche of assistance that the Biden administration will provide to Ukraine from the Department of Defense’s stockpile, beginning in August 2021», — the statement read.
The US Department of Defense said the additional assistance was provided to «meet Ukraine’s critical security and defense needs.»
The new package includes:
- Equipment and ammunition to counter unmanned aerial systems (c-UAS)
- Ammunition for High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS)
- 155 mm and 105 mm artillery ammunition
- Heavy guided anti-tank missiles (TOW)
- Javelin and AT-4 anti-tank systems
- Multifunctional all-wheel drive military vehicles (HMMWV)
- Ammunition for small arms
- Medical equipment
- Explosive equipment and ammunition
- Spare parts, auxiliary equipment, services, training, and transport
In light of Ukraine’s Independence Day, the Pentagon assured that the United States and an international coalition of about 50 NATO members and partners «remain committed to supporting Ukraine’s brave defenders as they continue to fight Russian aggression.»
On the eve of Ukraine’s Independence Day, US President Joe Biden called Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. During the conversation, he announced, among other things, the allocation of another military aid package to Ukraine.
“Today, we are also imposing new sanctions on nearly 400 entities and individuals who have contributed to Russia’s illegal war as part of our continued commitment to holding Russia accountable for its aggression», — the US president added.
As of the evening of August 23, there was no detailed list of military aid in the new package. Earlier, the AP agency noted that the cost of this package was $125 million.
Biden reiterated his support for Ukraine and stressed that Russia will not win this war.
Previously, Ukraine received military aid from the United States on July 29 and August 9.
