Historic part of Lviv was hit three times — correspondent
The Russians struck residential buildings in the historic center of Lviv three times.
This was reported by Ivan Stanislavskyi, a correspondent for Hromadske Radio.
«One of the strikes hit the upper floors of a new building. Another strike destroyed the floor of an old two-story building. Firefighters report that many people have been evacuated, and the city council is now deciding on the resettlement of those from the damaged buildings», — he emphasized.
According to him, the attack was complex. It is currently unclear what exactly caused the damage to the residential buildings. There is no official information, but «there are many different wrecks around, making it impossible to identify them.»
He added that «enough time» had passed between the start of the air alert and the strikes, allowing people to take shelter or secure themselves.
Stanislavskyi noted that there are no issues with electricity and water in the area affected by the attack. All the strikes targeted residential buildings; no infrastructure objects were hit.
«Now there is a haze over Lviv because two fires burned from the impact for about an hour to an hour and a half. Emergency services arrived at the scene promptly, without waiting for the end of the alarm. At this moment (as of 8:13 a.m. — ed.), the fires have been contained, and the demolition of the rubble and assistance to the victims is ongoing», — he said.
Ivan Stanislavskyi summarized that the streets, where there is no public transport, came under fire.
«But in Lviv, this is a perpetual problem because all the streets are parked. Large fire engines could only reach the impact site with difficulty because the streets are narrow and lined with parked cars. Emergency personnel had to navigate and find enough space to reach the affected area», — he concluded.
Shelling of Lviv
As a reminder, on the morning of September 4, the Russian army struck Lviv with «Shahed» attack drones and «Kinzhal» ballistic missiles. As a result, there are casualties, both dead and injured, as reported by the city’s mayor, Andriy Sadovy.
«There is a fire in residential buildings near the main station. Two schools will not start classes today: students of Arnica and School No. 17 remain at home», — the post reads.
As a result of the attack, residential buildings near the city’s main train station caught fire, and windows in several houses were shattered.
As of 08:44, the number of victims has risen to 38, according to the head of the regional military administration, Maksym Kozytskyi.
«Among the victims are five children. One 15-year-old is in moderate condition, and four have minor injuries», — the regional administration emphasized.
It is reported that seven people have died, including a man, a 50-year-old woman, a 14-year-old girl, and two other children.
In addition, Ukrzaliznytsia announced «several temporary power outages» in the Lviv region due to the strike. Reserve diesel locomotives have been deployed, and some trains will depart «with minimal delays.»
