At least 184 Ukrainian civilians were killed, and 856 others were injured by Russian occupiers in August.

This information is stated in a report by the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights.

«In August, at least 184 civilians were killed and 856 injured in Ukraine, making it the second-highest number of civilian casualties in 2024, following July,» the report states.

The increase in civilian deaths is attributed to «numerous incidents with mass casualties.» These include shellings in Kostiantynivka and Kharkiv, as well as daily shelling near the frontline, particularly in Donetsk Region.

«The vast majority of civilian casualties (91 percent) and damage to healthcare and education facilities (95 percent) in August were recorded in government-controlled areas.»

Russian Attack on 26 August

In the morning, Russian forces launched a massive attack on Ukraine using kamikaze drones and various types of missiles, primarily targeting energy facilities. Energy infrastructure in 15 regions was hit, including two power facilities in Kyiv Region, one of which was the Kyiv hydroelectric power station.

According to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, some of the targeted facilities were attacked with cluster munitions, requiring them to be cleared of mines before repairs can begin.

A drone strike in Lutsk resulted in one death and the destruction of a high-rise building, leaving the city without electricity or water.

In addition, Russian forces attacked an energy facility in Zaporizhzhia. One person was also reported dead in Dnipro Region, and another woman was killed in Zhytomyr Region.

Khmelnytsky and nearby settlements were left without electricity as a result of the missile attack, which also damaged private homes. This was the fourth attack on the area, and residents expressed frustration at not receiving material assistance from the authorities.

In total, during this attack, Russian forces launched 236 aerial targets at Ukraine: 127 missiles and 109 drones. The Air Force managed to shoot down 102 missiles and 99 attack drones.

Rivne, South Ukraine, and Chornobyl nuclear power plants have yet to restore connection to all external power lines, which were lost during the large-scale shelling on 26 August, according to a report by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on Friday, 6 September.
