An officer of the «Timur» Special Forces unit within the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine (DIU), codenamed Viking, has revealed details of the operation to liberate the Vovchansk Aggregate Plant in the Kharkiv region. Viking shared this information during a national telethon, as reported by the DIU press service on 25 September.

The operation, which lasted more than a week, resulted in the capture of two dozen Russian occupiers by the DIU’s special forces.

The battle lasted just over a week. There was intense shelling from the enemy, and they put up significant resistance at the plant. However, in the end, we completed the task,” Viking stated.

In addition to the captured soldiers, several dozen Russian occupiers were killed during the liberation of the plant. Four more tried to escape but were neutralized by Ukrainian forces outside the plant’s perimeter.

On 24 September, Ukraine’s Defence Intelligence announced that the Vovchansk Aggregate Plant had been liberated and cleared. Russian forces had occupied the plant since May 2024. They were eventually blocked by Ukrainian military efforts. The Russian troops had received support from their forces through the use of drones.

During the initial occupation of Vovchansk from February to September 2022, the Russians had set up a torture chamber at the Vovchansk Aggregate Plant.

TheUkrainian Defence Forces are continuing their efforts in the Kharkiv region, and more territories may soon be liberated. This was mentioned in an interview with Hromadske Radio by Roman Pohorilyi, analyst and co-founder of the DeepState project.

«Positive developments and efforts on the northern borders of Kharkiv continue. There will be more good news over time. The operation in the Kursk region has had some influence here because the Russians have withdrawn certain forces from Kharkiv, and now they are trying to hold on to what they still occupy. But the Defence Forces are active, and I hope the de-occupied blue zone will expand, starting with the aggregate plant,” Pohorilyi said.
